The Holiday Prices Drop Slightly – Down 1.4% in February

After a year of fluctuating holiday prices, February 2025 has started with a mixed picture, with some destinations experiencing significant price hikes, while others have become more affordable. According to Cheeky Trip’s analysis of millions of holiday prices, the overall cost of a holiday has dropped slightly by 1.4% compared to February 2024.

However, this small decrease does not reflect the full story, as some destinations have surged in price, while others have dropped sharply.

Short-Term vs. Long-Term Price Trends

For those looking to jet off soon, prices have increased:
  • Last-minute holidays (departing within a week) are up 4.1% compared to February 2024.
  • Holidays departing within a month have risen by 5.6% year-on-year.
  • However, holidays booked six months in advance remain stable, with only a 0.8% increase.

Short-Haul vs. Long-Haul Price Changes

  • Short-haul holidays to some of the UK’s most popular destinations have risen by nearly 10% compared to last year.
  • Meanwhile, long-haul holiday prices have dropped by just over 10%, making far-flung getaways more affordable for early 2025.

Destination-Specific Changes

Some destinations have seen a dramatic rise in price. Most notably:
  • Greece has experienced an almost 30% price increase compared to the same period last year.
  • Malta and Egypt have also seen notable rises, making them pricier options for early 2025.
On the other hand, some longer-haul destinations have become significantly cheaper:
  • Cape Verde and the Caribbean have seen price drops of 13% to 23%, making them more affordable compared to the same period last year.

Overall Market Trends

When factoring in popular destinations such as the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, and other top European holiday spots, prices have dipped slightly overall.

Steve Campion, Managing Director at Cheeky Trip, commented on the findings:
“We’re seeing a real split in the market right now. Certain short-haul destinations, particularly Greece, Malta, and Egypt, are experiencing strong price increases—likely driven by high demand or reduced availability. On the other hand, longer-haul destinations such as Cape Verde and the Caribbean are more affordable than they were last year, making them attractive options for winter sun seekers.”

With a mix of rising and falling prices across different regions, 2025 is shaping up to be an interesting year for holiday pricing. Those booking last-minute trips may face higher costs, while travellers looking for longer-haul getaways could take advantage of some great deals.
