It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Not just for getting cosy and excited for Santa coming, but also for getting out and about and exploring the magic of Christmas markets up and down the country and even beyond. There is nothing quite like a festive city break with the family, with friends or with that special someone. There are great Christmas markets in all corners of Europe these days and here are a few of our favourites…
Edinburgh
Perhaps the largest and most popular Christmas Market venue in the UK and with good reason, is
Edinburgh. Santa’s Grotto, Christmas carolers, fairground rides and traditional festive stalls are some of the attractions to Scotland’s capital at this time of year. Not to mention all of the great restaurants and bars in the city to grab a warm mulled wine.
Winchester
At the other end of the UK resides Winchester Cathedral’s Christmas Market which is renowned for its bustling atmosphere, high number and variety of stalls as well as a grand ice rink. It is a great place to enjoy the festivities, located right under the shadow of the historic Cathedral itself.
Vienna
If you are looking to travel a little further into Europe to find your dream Festive Break Holiday, then
Vienna is an exceptional place to begin your search. The various “squares” of the city are transformed into magical, intertwined Christmas Markets with wooden stalls as far as the eye can see. The traditional “Vienna Magic of Advent” sees the main city square transformed into a fairytale-themed land.
Budapest
Consistently voted among the very best for European Christmas Markets is
Budapest. More specifically, the famous Advent Feast at the Basilica. This Christmas market truly has it all with a wide-range of street food, handcraft stalls, musical performances and a 12-metre-tall Christmas tree. A Christmas market experience here in front of St. Stephen’s Basilica is truly one to remember.
